Purpose:
To reduce the ever-present problem of underhood high
temperatures. A cooler engine means longer longevity,
higher horsepower and a better running vehicle.

How is it done:
This mod is done by simply wrapping the exhaust wrap around
the cross-over tube that connects the front and rear exhaust
manifolds, working slowly from the front of the car to the
rear. The initial few coils are loose and after a few
are in place, they are aligned, tightened and held in place
by a metallic retaining strap (like the kind that holds the
hose to the back of the clothes dryer), and looped all the
way to the end of the crossover tube's length, where another
retaining strap holds it all in place. Total installation
time is around 15 minutes with 2 people doing it (one pulling
the excess wrap and one doing the wrapping).
I initially hear that this mode stinks pretty bad for the
first few days after installation as the material sets, but
I had no such problems. There was a mild odor and a
tiny bit of smoke for the first day and it was almost imperceptible
during the second day. I am not going to spray this
wrap with any coating as I heard that this assists in retaining
the water and eventually rusting out the crossover pipe.
Since I also keep the compartment clean for the most part,
I do not anticipate any problems.
By the way, compliments and kudos go to the man who made
this mod possible for me, Frank Gore. It was he who
had the extra wrap available as leftover from doing his and
even after me offerring to pay, he graciously refused.
Thanks Frank!
