Purpose:  To provide a clean up under the factory spoiler, prevent  under the spoiler damage and prevent the chance of water from coming into the trunk.

How its done:  This is without doubt the cheapest mod I have ever done on this car (rear badge removal aside).  The total cost was exactly 69 cents for the 12 rubber hose gaskets.  Here are the steps to do this mod:

1) Remove the rubber gaskets from the retainer and clean them off

2) Remove the rear spoiler from the rear of the car... its simply screwed in there with 6 bolts.

3) Thoroughly clean off the underside of the now exposed spoiler and where it sat on the trunk.  Remove that ridiculous tape that GM placed there and all the residual glue from the tape.  Make sure its immaculately clean before proceeding to the next step (mine was VERY dirty and cruddy underneath).

4) Going to the trunk lid, clean thoroughly.  If there are any scratches in the paint, fill them in with touchup paint.  This might take 2 coats (mine did) and a few hours to do well.  If your car is not black (like mine), you might consider painting the gaskets to match your car's paint at this point in time as well.  Let dry completely.

5) Place at least two (2) coats of wax on the spoiler and trunk... buff to perfection (spoiler and trunk).

Before replacing the spoiler back on the car, place the rubber hose gaskets between the trunk and the spoiler.  Make sure that you use a smidgen of silicone sealant to better seal the gaskets to the trunk and spoiler.

The spoiler now sits slightly higher.  This does two things... it allows water and debris to pass without obstruction and it prevents further damage of your trunk.  Total time to do depends on how fast the paint dries.  For me this took about 2 hours NOT including the time for the paint to dry.

I first saw this mod on the car of Mike Bouchard but since I never had any leaks made nothing about it.  Later I caught a website of someone who also did this mod and saw the actual damage to the paint.  It was at this point that I decided to have a look and sure enough it was there.  It wasn't very hard to convince myself that this was a mod that needed to be done in a timely manner.
